Arrival Instructions:
When you arrive, you’re welcome to park in front of our house, on the lawn. Walk down the left side of the house, along the alleyway, and ring the yellow bell. We’ll come to greet you and get you settled in!
Our dogs might bark when you first arrive. They’re simply letting us know someone new is here, but they’ll settle down quickly once they get used to you. The best thing to do is just ignore them, and they’ll soon relax.

We recently updated our kitchen setup to include an air fryer and a small gas stove. We hope this makes your stay even more comfortable!
However, if you would prefer the previous setup—a small oven with a two-plate stove on top—please let us know.
Just a quick note about the toilet— Please make sure to push the handle up after flushing so it stops running properly.
We’re in the process of replacing the whole unit, so thank you for your patience! If you have any issues with it, just let us know—we’re happy to pop in and have a quick look.

Welcome to the O.Griet studio.
You’re stepping into what was once the home studio of South African children’s book illustrator Gerda Smit. Over the weekends, the studio transformed into this Airbnb, but as the space grew busier, the studio moved on, leaving behind traces of its creative spirit.
Here’s what to expect:
• You might spot some charming paint stains on the floor or unfinished artworks and colour charts on the walls. These are remnants of the artistic energy that once filled this space.
• You’ll find watercolour paper, paints, and a few other art materials waiting for you to unleash your creativity. Feeling inspired? Send Gerda a message, and she’ll share some beginner-friendly online art projects to get you started!
• If you prefer an in-person experience, Gerda offers pop-in art classes on Thursday mornings between 10:00 and 12:00. For R300 per person, you can enjoy a fun and inspiring session—just let us know if you’d like to book!
• Included in your stay is a coffee voucher for a nearby venue, (THE PLAYHOUSE,81 Kommetjie street, Fish Hoek), where you can view Gerda’s The Magical Fishhoek illustration range. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee, create someting arty, explore hot desks, or even join an aerial yoga or movement class.
