Butterfly Project: Two Options

Choose how to create your butterfly:
1. Watercolour Butterfly – Paint with soft layers, then add stronger colours for depth.
2. Acrylic Pen Butterfly – Colour in with bold, opaque acrylic pens for precise details.

Once finished, stick your butterfly onto the circular background to complete your artwork!
Steps for Painting a Watercolour Painting
1. Choose Your Watercolour Chart
Select the colours you’ll be using for your painting.
2. Activate the Paint
Use a wet brush to gently activate the paint blobs on your palette. Swirl the brush in the paint to lift pigment.
3. Paint the Background and Butterfly with a Soft, Diluted Colour
• Mix a light wash of your chosen colour with water.
• Apply this soft wash to the circular background and the butterfly, keeping the strokes light and even.

Tip: Make sure your colour is light, but your brush is not too wet when you paint. Otherwise, you will have to wait too long for it to dry.

4. Wait for the Layer to Dry
• Let the first layer dry completely before adding any more colour.
5. Add Stronger Colours and Details
• For the next layers of paint, mix your colours with less water so they appear bold and vibrant.
• Apply these stronger colours in selected areas, adding depth and definition.
• Use fine brushstrokes to paint lines and details, enhancing the butterfly and background.
6. Assemble Your Painting
• Once all the paint is dry, carefully cut out your butterfly if needed.
• Stick the butterfly onto the circular background, making sure it is well-positioned.
S Step-by-Step Guide to Colouring the Butterfly Kit with Acrylic Pens

Step 1: Choose 3-4 colours, including your background colour.
Pick a combination of colours that work well together. Consider a mix of bold and light shades to create contrast.

Step 2: Colour and decorate the background circle.
Fill the background with your chosen colour and add patterns, textures, or small decorative details to make it more interesting.

Step 3: Start with the basic colour for the butterfly.
This will be the main colour of the butterfly. Fill in the larger sections evenly.

Step 4: Add a second colour in smaller areas.
Use this colour to create details by adding dots, tiny shapes, or delicate patterns to bring dimension and interest.

Step 5: Add highlights.
Decide on a light source (e.g., from the right). Use white or a very light colour to add highlighted dots on the right side of the butterfly’s head and body.

Step 6: Stick the butterfly to the background.
Use craft glue to carefully attach the butterfly to the background circle, making sure it is securely placed.

Step 7: Draw the butterfly’s antennae with black or a very dark colour.
These can be delicate, swirling lines extending from the butterfly’s head. Also, add shadow lines on the left side of the butterfly’s head and body for depth.

Step 8: Add highlights to the butterfly’s antennae.
Using white or a very light colour, add small highlight touches to the right side of the antennae to enhance contrast and make the design pop.

Let everything dry, and your butterfly is complete!
